Random comic book thought #9

May 21, 2010

This is my thought on price points:

The thing that would turn me off from buying monthly books all together would be if the price went up to $4.99 and all I got was 32 pages of story. Because, then you would be going into magazine prices and all the magazines that I buy that are over 5 or 6 dollars have more than one article in it and if they did have just one article in it I would not buy that mag. So, that is how I feel about this particular issue affecting the comic book industry, if your going to raise the price than your going to have to raise the amount of story to justify that price increase. There are a couple of books that are $3.99 and do offer a second feature with the increase in price and that doesn’t bother me. What does bother me is increasing the price to a regular format book (22 or 32 pages of story) and expecting fans to just lay down and take it without offering readers additional new material for the cost. This is the type of thing that doesn’t make me want to continue buying individual issues and avoid publisher’s that partake in such practices, it causes the already diminishing fans to want to leave  and possibly makes a relatively inaccessible medium seem less accessable to new fans.

Yeah, I really hope this price increase doesn’t happen. I’m already broke from so many 4 dollar titles…

Agreed, if it ever became 4.99 I will go back to waiting for the trades otherwise it becomes harder to justify spending so much on comics especially if you are buying multiple issues a month.

Yeah, that’s not a bad idea, waiting for trades. Since most stores that sell that like Borders also gives away coupons and overall we’re saving a lot more money than buying it monthly for $4. One trip + One Coupon = Simpler way.
